Jerome Claytor and The
Second Impression were in the first-round of the Grammy Nominees for 2002 and 2003 for best R&B band.
Jerome has been performing
with bands since he was fifteen years old. At the age of five, he sang his first
solo in church and from the reaction of the crowd he knew performing was in his blood to stay.
The next year, on a Easter Sunday, his grandmother had a picnic. The whole family and many friends were
there, and Jerome had a record player on the porch, singing along with Tyrone Davis, emotionally pouring out his heart on
“Turn Back the Hands of Time” and begging along with “If Loving You Is Wrong” by Luther Ingram. A small audience soon turned into a large one.
That’s when an uncle commented that Jerome certainly does like to sing.
“Yeah,” his father responded, “that little boy sure loves to beg to the women.”
Many years of doing covers
by other R&B greats led to Jerome writing and composing his own songs. He figures if they could write great songs
about nothing he could write meaningful songs about something.
During the course of
his long music career, he has opened for many R&B recording artist, such as; Lenny Williams, Freddie Jackson, Zapp, Anne
Nesby, Jay Blackfoot, Roy C., Chuck Brown and many others.
“My future may
also include appearing in films,” Jerome says. "There is an independent
filmmaker who has roles in two screenplays for me that could lead to brand-new career opportunities. I love both scripts.
One is a drama and the other is a comedy.”
